WHERE'S ALL THE
SKB BEER?

Perhaps you're perusing our current menu and wondering why it's primarily guest taps and can pours right now -- which is a totally valid thing to ponder. Read on to learn why:

First of all, and most importantly, please rest assured that all is well in the SKB world, generally speaking 🙂 We aren't going anywhere, and this isn't a permanent change. In fact, we just re-signed our lease for another 5 years!

What happened is that our steam boiler malfunctioned in mid-September, causing irreparable damage to its components, and resulting in the need for a full replacement. Our boiler is the heart of our operations -- it heats all of our brewhouse vessels and the water we use for cleaning kegs, so this was an enormous blow to production.

Fortunately, Oktoberfest dominates the Fall, so we had plenty of beer in reserve at the time, and we thought we'd be able to repair or replace things quickly without falling too far behind.

But as time has gone on (slowly, due to inspections, insurance, disassembly, procurement), those beer reserves have become depleted. Hence, we started bringing in guest beers from industry friends toward the end of October to keep the taps full in the meantime.

The good news is: We finished installing the new boiler the day before Halloween (pictured here, mid-install), and as soon as it's certified by the state, we will be brewing and getting beer back in our tanks. However, due to the fact that beer takes time, there's gonna be a stretch of a few weeks where SKB beer will continue to be sparse on taps.

Fortunately, we proactively brewed at another local brewery right after the boiler broke to ensure we could get a new SKB pale ale on tap asap. We've also got our annual collab brew day with BubbleHouse on 11/5 ("Noir Wall" Black IPA!), and we'll be getting fresh batches of Migratory, a new Gufo, something light, something dark, and something wheaty in our own tanks shortly.

We know there's a lot of tough news in our industry right now, but we are fortunate to still be growing, so we wanted to reassure you that while this has been a speed bump, it's certainly not a stop sign 🙂

Thanks for your patience and understanding as we work to fill ALL of our taps with SKB beer once more. We expect new beers to be hitting the taps at a cadence of 2 per week beginning at the start of December. Just think of November as a month-long Friendsgiving in our taproom ;)

Best,

emily, john, and paul
