Whether you’re a writer, an artist, or someone who aspires to bring more creativity into their life in 2026, this beginner-friendly session will help you tap into the inspiration all around us. Join Amanda ReCupido as she introduces the concepts behind ekphrastic poetry, a form that responds to or describes a work of visual art.

In this 90-minute workshop, you'll use visual art references to reflect on emotional connection, sensory association, and elements of shared experience. You'll then put pen to paper to practice capturing these nuances in the vivid language of poetry. A complimentary beer, cider, or seltzer is included to help spark creativity!

• As everyone has a personal preference when it comes to writing tools, we ask that you please bring your preferred pen or pencil and something to write on. A journal, notebook, or physical paper and pen is preferred to keep this a tech-free experience, but feel free to use whatever is most comfortable for you.

• If you'd like, you may also identify 2-3 pieces of art you wish to write about, but don't worry - we'll also have some options for you if you don't!

About the instructor:

Amanda ReCupido is a creative storyteller and thought leader who has lead similar workshops for thousands of aspiring and professional creatives worldwide via Creative Mornings and Medium Day. A published author, Amanda’s stories have been featured in anthologies and media outlets such as McSweeney’s and the Chicago Sun-Times. She’s a public speaker, a frequent podcast guest, and has spoken at storytelling events including The Moth. She holds a BA from Illinois Wesleyan University, and certificates from New York University and Northwestern University. She lives in the Chicagoland area.
