We are so excited to host this amazing collab with nearly 20 ladies from more than a dozen suburban breweries and bottle shops — and our taproom is open to the public starting at noon so everyone can watch the fun unfold! Throughout the brew, we’ll be sharing samples of malt to chew, hops to rub and wort to taste, as well as a live video feed of what’s going on inside the mash tun and brew kettle!
We will be brewing a dry-hopped, farmhouse-style IPA, with each participating brewery creating its own variant to tap at their respective taprooms once the beer is ready. Stay tuned for release dates / tap takeovers!
A HUGE thanks to the generous folks at Omega Yeast and Country Malt Group, who are sponsoring all of the yeast and malt for this brew. We appreciate their support for women in Chicagoland craft beer!!
We will be using Omega’s Jovaru Lithuanian Farmhouse Ale yeast, which was sourced from famed brewer Aldona Udriene, the “queen of Lithuaian farmhouse beer.” Our grain bill will include 2-row, honey malt, flaked rye and Great Western Malt’s new Pure Idaho Pilsner malt. The hops going into the brew are a blend specially created for PBS by Yakima Chief (Loral, Glacier, Simcoe, Mosaic and Sabro), and a portion of the proceeds from the purchase of these hops goes directly to PBS.
In addition to the donation from the purchase of the hops, each brewery pouring the collab beer will be donating a portion of the proceeds per pint sold to Pink Boots Society to help fund scholarships for women in craft beer.
We are honored to have women brewers, owners, sales and brand managers from the following businesses joining us for the brew day: Skeleton Key (duh), Church Street, BuckleDown, Metal Monkey, Scallywag, Hopewell, Elmhurst Brewing, Alter, Wolfden, Iron&Glass, Exit Strategy, Dry City, Werk Force, Twisted Hippo and Omega Yeast Labs.
An additional thanks to Joe Bobbe of Average Joe’s Above Average Beer Podcast and Mathew Powers of PorchDrinking.com – Chicago for helping us document this amazing event!
